While in Santa Fe, I discovered this Peruvian chullo hat made entirely of strips of reclaimed plastic trash, accompanied by a short video that provided the background narrative to this impressive work. This installation is part of the exhibit Crafting Memory: the Art of Community in Peru. The exhibit visits a series of contemporary folk artists in Peru and places their work within a larger framework of Peruvian history and social change. A thought provoking and powerful show - kudos to curator Amy Groleau and her staff!
