Thinking Through Textiles: Future Pedagogies

In February 2025 Cameron collaborated on the Thinking Through Textiles symposia, which gathered academics, researchers, artists, designers, technologists, and architects to discuss the re-emergence of a textile-based education as part of a vibrant and future-facing pedagogy. This inaugural half-day conference kicked off a regional focus on the role of textiles in a contemporary education. Hosted by UCLA's Department of Design Media Arts, Thinking Through Textiles: Future Pedagogies explored the intersections of aesthetics, textile technique, cross-disciplinary studies, and new material insights, while introducing opportunities for collaborative engagement.

Cameron moderated the panel The Bauhaus and Black Mountain College: A History of Art, Craft, and Textile Pedagogy, with speakers Fritz Horstman from the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Michael Beggs, co-author and co-curator of Weaving at Black Mountain College, and artist Christy Matson. The discussion addressed the institutions’ intertwinings with the teachings of Anni and Josef Albers, as well as examined the core philosophies and curricula, their legacies, and continued relevance in education today.

Please see the event website for more details.

Cameron discusses the impact of Anni Albers in an interview at the Craft in America Center during the exhibit.
