ONE shuttle MANY colors - May 2018

A seminar on one shuttle color blending at the annual Weaving and Fiber Festival morphed into a fun project - several yards of handwoven fabric that I made into pillows. The base weave was tabby with twill accents and an occasional rib weave to give some additional texture. All the weft yarns were deaccessioned from my abundant ARTSgarage teaching stash. I used a single shuttle that held two bobbins and changed out 1 bobbin at a time as each ran out. This allowed for a rich blending of colors with transitions that could be subtle or bold depending on my color choices. It was a fun and fluid project – not much preplanning and no measuring – I just went with it!
