LAVAfolds
LAVAfolds was inspired by a photograph Cameron’s son took of an ancient lava flow at Sullivan Bay on Santiago Island in the Galapagos. The image intrigued her because the lava revealed a fabric-like quilted quality at odds with the actual surface. She captured various portions of his photograph, printed each onto fabric, cut them into irregular wefts and wove them into new configurations. Stitching and light quilting added to the soft dimensionality derived from such an unlikely source.
